About

So, why this blog exists?

As a kid, I used to think that I’m a genius. (Every kid has a fantasy, c’mon.) When the bubble burst I learned, to be a genius I needed to learn and read. So be it science books, or Stephen King, I’ve been drawn to books and reading in general. The problem is, I forget most things I read. And hence this blog. This is a personal curation of things I’ve read, enjoyed and are worth sharing, with a focus on psychology.

Why psychology? Because humans are intriguing and their behaviour more so. What psychologists have discovered about our minds is fascinating and usually contradicts popular beliefs.

Experiment

Two people were given $1 and $10 each to tell a lie. The one with $1 actually believed in the lie he was told to convey. Why? Because the person with more money ($10) had a reason to tell a lie meanwhile the first person (with very less money) had no reason to lie so he convinced himself that he must be speaking the truth!

Big companies like Nike, and Apple use these discoveries in their marketing campaigns to increase sales. But if we are already aware of such theories and findings, we can be more immune to their manipulation and take a conscious decision. (Why do people spend more when they see the word ‘SALE’.)

About the Author

I’m a software engineer professionally. Apart from reading, I’m passionate about creative/fictional writing. My favourite pastime? Playing with rhymes and jotting down poems (I’m an ‘Em fan Stan). To unwind, I hang out with friends and travel – trekking in particular. When I’m exhausted from all that, I bang my head on a piano.
